Transport Malta Ramps Up Its Road Enforcement Efforts in 2023

- 376 escooters were confiscated
- 115 plates were confiscated
Transport Malta has ramped up its road enforcement efforts in 2023, as it relentlessly worked towards ensuring safer roads and upholding traffic regulations. The Authoritys commitment to maintaining order on the roads is evident in the remarkable statistics achieved throughout the year.
During 2023, the Authority has issued a total of 32,801 contraventions, sending a strong message against violations of traffic laws. Approximately 6,000 administrative fines were imposed on offenders, underlining the Authority's dedication to holding accountable those who compromise road safety.
In an effort to combat illegal and dangerous practices, the Authority confiscated a substantial number of vehicles, including 570 cars, 376 escooters, and 115 number plates. These actions serve as a deterrent and reinforce the importance of adhering to traffic regulations.
Collaboration was key to the Authoritys success, as a number of roadside inspections were conducted, some conducted in collaboration with the Malta Police Force, Department for Industrial and Employment Relations (DIER), and the European Labour Authority (ELA). This cooperative approach allowed for a comprehensive examination of road users' compliance with regulations and further strengthened the impact of enforcement efforts.
A notable proactive initiative was taken by the Authority before the commencement of the scholastic year. The aim was to ensure smooth traffic flow and to offer support to motorists facing breakdowns on the roads. Transport Malta provided a free tow-truck service, showcasing the Authority's commitment to both preventive measures and rapid response to unforeseen incidents.
