Moorings & Berthing
To apply for and register a new mooring, the customer/boat owner needs to fill in and submit an application for a temporary mooring permit issued under the Mooring of Small Ships and Boats Regulations. Together with the application, a boat owner is required to present a copy of the ID Card, a copy of a valid boat certificate and a copy of a valid boat insurance (where applicable).
The boat owner would ideally identify the locality together with the coordinates of the area/location he/she wishes to place the mooring and include this in the application. The Authority can only issue mooring permits in localities managed and organised by Transport Malta. Once the application is submitted, the Moorings and Berthing Unit will look at the possibilities taking into consideration various aspects including the availability of space in the interest of safety of navigation and the mooring of other boats in the area.
If the indicated location is available, then the boat owner will be informed by the Moorings and Berthing Unit that the permit has been granted and to visit the office to collect the official registered buoy at a fee and to settle the applicable annual mooring fees. If the indicated location is not available at the time of application, then the application will be kept on file and on the Authoritys waiting list until a vacant mooring becomes available.
