Security Level Procedures

Procedures to specify security levels of Ports

All Maltese ports operate at Security Level 1 if not otherwise advised.

There are two ways to establish the security levels of port facilities:

• The Office of the Port Security Officer (PSO) consults with the members of the National Maritime Security Committee or vice-versa the NMSC consults the Office at the PSO.
• The NMSC shall make the relevant decision as to what level the Port Facility will operateat. This is done by consultation with the Committee members.

Any change to the security level 1 transmitted by the Office of the PSO who informs the Port Security Officer and the Port Service Providers as soon as possible (by phone) and followed by an official written confirmation (fax or e -mail).

All port facilities must acknowledge the current changes received in writing (fax or e-mail).
