Renewal of Road Licence

  1. Vehicle Road licence is valid for one year and is renewed according to the first letter of the registration number. For example if your registration number begins with an “A”, your renewal is due in January. You can see this in detail by clicking in the Plates Section. Licence of the vehicle will remain liable until such vehicle will be officially garaged, scrapped or transferred.
  2. If you want to renew your vehicle licence, you can do this through your insurance agency or from home by clicking here www.licenzji-vetturi.gov.mt
  3. If you want to renew your vehicle license from home, make sure that insurance and vehicle roadworthiness test (if applicable) details are already entered by the insurer and the vrt garage.
  4. Any pending road licences or pending fines/contraventions will have to be paid prior to the transfer process. If the vehicle’s licence is not renewed within three months from last renewal date, an administrative fine of €10 per month will be charged, with such amount not exceeding the €100, except for those vehicles registered on a motor car dealer.
