Remote Identification

Remote identification will become mandatory on drones operating in EASA Member States from 1 January 2024, except in geographical zones which the particular Member States may designate as non-mandatory.

To this end, drones with class identification label C1, C2, C3, C5 and C6, that are already equipped with a remote identification system will be required to operate with an active and updated remote identification system from 1 January 2024, irrespective of the category of operation. Moreover, all drones operating in the specific category will also be required to operate with an active and updated remote identification system from this date.

In this respect, the drone operator is required to upload their UAS operator registration number (obtained during the registration process) on the remote identification system on each drone.

All citizens may detect the remote identification information through a dedicated app on smartphones; however, only the enforcement authorities will be able to interrogate the database and associate the UAS operator registration number with a name.
